Kalyan is a place, or rather town where I learned many things for the first time. Kalyan is a historic place as well as important junction on Central Railway. Kalyan taught me survival and Kalyan made me fight for my rightful place in this world. In Kalyan, I reached my zenith and in the same Kalyan I tasted the dust. Still Kalyan I love very much as my memory is wedded to Kalyan. My memory goes back to 1948, a year when my brother was born, I was that time four years old. It was pre independence period but strangely free atmosphere prevailed as home rule was granted. Some processions or other were going on and in one such procession, I got entangled and went to an unknown area of Kalyan. I got lost in the crowd and was standing in a corner, forlorn, when a gentleman recognized my predicament. He took me to Tilak chowk from where I found my way to home. That was my first experience of being lost in this world. For some moments I was on the brink of weeping. Four years toddler as I was then. When I remember Kalyan, a kaleidoscope of events unfolds in front of me. I remember Adharwadi a secluded place where there was crematorium. I remember a gigantic well in Adharwadi on that well we learned to swim and became expert. I learned to dive in the water and became an expert diver. I even crossed the Kalyan creek. One trip to Adharwadi daily was must for us when our friend, Sainath came to stay there. Like three musketeers we three became famous in Kalyan. Vijay Pradhan, Sai nath Dawane and I were hand in glow. We bunked school and saw many pictures or went for long walks in and around Kalyan. Those were the days, my friend------------------------
I became a professor, in Kalyan in my later years. But my earlier days I never forgot. Then the happiest and most precious thing in my life happened in Kalyan. My son Amol was born, that too in Kalyan. I began to teach in Deshpande classes near about that time and for the first time experienced complete satisfaction. So teaching was my vocation, I learned late in life. While teaching I became a popular teacher and a most versatile one. Strangely enough subjects which I found boring while in college, e.g. Economics, I made easy for my students and entertaining as well. Kalyan offered me varied experiences in dramatics and poetry also. My experiences in Birla college and Mohindersingh college as lecturer, proved to be very valuable in my life. Kalyan has seen my life not only grow but also flower in many respects. I still remember the days I spent with friends in Adharwadi, Machhi bazaar and Syndicate. Kalyan is growing now and becoming more beautiful. Thanks to Kalyan Municipal corp. for making this town into a beautiful city. My Alma Mater, General Education Society’s High school, stands erect and noble in historic Kalyan. I love my Alam Mater and respect her. Long live Kalyan.
