Channel watch—Mi Marathi----------------
My international friends won’t understand what is Mimarathi. Let me explain. Mi means I and marathi is the primary language in of the people of Maharashtra, a western state in India. Now Mimarathi is a new channel on the horizon. There were all together four channels of Marathi speaking public. They are Sahyadri, E marathi, Z marathi and Z marathi news channel. Now Mimarathi is fifth channel and very bold and innovative channel among them all. Sahyadri is a state channel so it has got its limitations. E marathi concentrates more on news coverage and its boring soaps such as Char Diwas Sasuche. It has completed 1500 episodes the channel has announced proudly. Indeed a man can fool all the people all the time. Main theme of the soap is revenge. Revenge taken by daughter in law on mother on law. It is mainly to attract village folks and it has succeeded in its mission so to say. As it is most of soaps on channels are boring and time consuming. Hindi channels are not far behind in producing boring soaps such as Sas bhi kabhi bahu thi. Even if the story may be boring but always the art direction is excellent and sets are eye catching or locales are wonderful. But let us not dwell upon them. Adhikari brothers are the same of Sub tv. But now they present Mimarathi, a new channel and innovative channel at that too. A channel with problems of social relevance.
Mimarathi is superb in selection of its subjects and artists. At the helm of affairs are Adhikari brothers and sister Kanchan Adhikari. She conducts a talk show—Dil Khullas. As the name suggests free and fare discussions are held in completely free atmosphere. Kanchan has very attractive personality and persuasive nature. So she becomes successful in steering the show to a desired effect. Kanchan also selects the compatible crowd to be present at every discussion. I have seen a very handful episodes of the show and my opinions are based on my experiences. Recently Kanchan directed show on Lawani kalakars. Lawani is a folk art and its artists are most neglected class in Maharashtra. Most of the lawani artists were called to take part in the discussions. Similarly another of her show was to discuss problems of Eunuchs. Kanchan’s subjects are innovative and having social significance. She takes a social problem and has free discussion with the people in thick of things. Now they are coming up with subject of Lesbians and homo-sexuals and same sex marriages. It is bold subject and let us see how Kanchan handles the discussion.
Apart from the this some entertaining talk shows are there not presented by Kanchan. Mogara Fulala is imformative program in which right from doctor and cookery show to anything under the sun. The channel is in infant state in news coverage and its news programs humbug. I expect more responsible handling of news broad casts. It is daunting task to run a channel. But The Adhikari brothers are managing with remarkable skill, courage and acumen. In the front of established channels and in the face of stiff competition they are doing the best job.
